This is a question that we are sometimes asked! How much care do Goldendoodles, Irishdoodles and Bernedoodles require? We would first say, that as a responsible dog lover and owner, ALL dogs deserve a high level of care and love. That being said, Goldendoodles, Irishdoodles and Bernedoodles would be considered to be moderately high maintenance compared to some other dog breeds.
Here are a few things to consider when deciding to make a doodle a part of your family!
Grooming
A Goldendoodle’s (Bernedoodle or Irishdoodle) curly or wavy coats will require regular grooming to prevent matting. The frequency of the grooming will depend on the coat type, how you prefer them to be cut, and how faithful you are at brushing! After all of those considerations, grooming may need to be needed every 6-16 weeks.
Exercise
Goldendoodles, Irishdoodles and Bernedoodles are usually not complete couch potatoes! They love being outside, playing with their family, taking walks, hikes, and playing fetch! They will be much healthier and happier with some sort of daily exercise. They also live to snuggle and are very content to be hanging out with their families.
Training
Goldendoodles, Bernedoodles, and Irishdoodles are very intelligent and eager to please! This makes them relatively easy to train. Their family still must offer consistency in the training as well as socialization, especially when they are puppies. Read more about training in this blog post.
Health
Like all breeds, they can be prone to certain health issues, so regular vet check-ups and vaccinations are essential. Oral care is also important to their overall health! Keeping up with their monthly dewormer and their flea and tick medication will prevent heartworms and other issues!
Socializing
Goldendoodles (Irishdoodles and Bernedoodles) are very social dogs that thrive on interaction with their families.They want to be with you all the time! Overall, Goldnedoodles, Irishdoodles and Bernedoodles do require a moderate amount of attention and care. But our families have found that their friendly, loving, loyal, affectionate and fun natures are more than worth the effort. These dogs provide so much more love than they will ever require!
